About Us

Gavin established Green Cat Renewables in December 2004 and now has over 25 years of experience in the renewables industry developing wind, small-scale hydro, solar and hybrid projects. From a background of electrical engineering, and with a PhD in wind turbine generator design, his broad base of expertise includes project feasibility assessment and optimisation, project management, construction management, commercial risk assessment, environmental assessment, resource assessment, grid connection negotiation and design. In his time at Green Cat, Gavin has overseen the delivery of over 800MW of renewables projects.

Louise leads the Engineering Department at Green Cat with over 12 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, a degree and background in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and an MBA. She has successfully delivered projects across the UK, taking schemes from feasibility, through obtaining necessary consents, tender of works, procurement of all components and services required, to construction and completion. Louise oversees project programmes, finances, resources and provides input ensuring that any issues that arise as projects develop are efficiently resolved, and that projects progress to completion on time and on budget. She is excited to be part of Green Cat Renewables as the company strives to be at the forefront of exploring innovative solutions (storage, hybrid, hydrogen/ammonia), enabling the development of low subsidy and subsidy-free projects that will contribute to the UK’s net-zero target and a greener future.

In his role as Technical Director, Cameron is responsible for Green Cat’s wind, solar and hydro Due Diligence work for a variety of funders and investors, and provides technical oversight across all our Environmental Assessment areas and Asset Management function.  He has an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology and 17 years of experience in the renewables industry. Cameron has a thorough and in-depth understanding of the technical, environmental and social issues associated with commercial renewable energy development, having managed more than 30 wind energy projects through the Scottish planning system and provided technical support for over 300 wind, solar and hydro projects at all stages of project development, from initial feasibility to post construction encompassing consenting, resource assessment, due diligence and operational asset management.  Cameron also specialises in noise assessment of pre-planning and constructed sites, and has acted as expert witness on noise in the UK and Alberta, Canada.  His expert witness experience also extends to shadow flicker for wind farms and glare assessment for solar farms.

Steven is a Principal Consultant within the Due Diligence team and has experience working on a range of renewable energy projects since 2009. He has particular involvement in all aspects of the construction process: reviewing the discharge of planning conditions; reviewing EPC contracts, BoP contracts, ICP contracts, and Grid Connection Offers; and, overseeing the co-ordination of various construction elements on site to project finalisation. Steven is also Working at Height trained, has completed Rescue Training in Wind Turbines, and has inspected a range of wind turbines. This experience, and previous work involved in the planning and design of renewable energy projects, gives him valuable insight through the Due Diligence process.

Rob holds an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning as well as a BEng in Energy and Environmental Engineering and has over 6 years of specialist experience in the renewables industry. Rob has managed all aspects of the consenting and project development process from initial feasibility assessments, constraints mapping and layout design, liaising with clients, community groups, sub-contractors and regulatory bodies, co-ordinating and inputting into environmental and technical assessments as well as the overseeing and managing of EIA’s. Rob has a thorough understanding of the key environmental and technical constraints involved in the development of renewables projects.

Isla holds a BSc. (Hons) in Environmental Geography and an MSc in Environmental Management both with research focused on environmental impacts on cultural heritage features, and additionally has an HND in Photography. As an Environmental Consultant, Isla is responsible for Cultural Heritage Impact Assessments, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments, Site Constraints Mapping, the Design Statement and Project Management.
Isla also trains and leads our GIS and Graphics team, coordinating and managing the production of all required photography, mapping, photomontages and figures for our clients, landscape studies and planning applications. Utilising a range of software packages such as QGIS, ReSoft Windfarm, the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and InDesign and PTGui; all inhouse graphics and visualisations are produced to EIA and industry standard.

Kirsten is an IEMA Practitioner (PIEMA) with an MSc in Environmental Management with conservation specialisation. She has a keen interest in groundwater, hydrological and ecological issues, and utilises strong GIS skills with an expertise in ground conditions, habitat assessment and mapping. Having worked in the renewables sector for several years, Kirsten has been involved in all stages of project development from initial site identification and layout design, to conducting site walkovers and environmental assessments, through to post-planning works and discharge of planning conditions. Kirsten is comfortable in liaising with stakeholders and community groups as well as the management of the project team across hydrology, ecology, and ornithology disciplines. Kirsten has built a thorough understanding of the EIA and regulatory process within the UK renewables sector, authoring and reviewing key chapters within the EIA, with focus on hydrology and hydrogeology assessments, peat management plans, flood risk assessments, and ecological and ornithological assessments.

Roy is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 10 years of experience in the renewable energy industry and is now pleased to be working as a Senior Project Manager at Green Cat. He has successfully developed and delivered wind farm projects up to 92MW across the UK and Ireland and also worked on large scale windfarms in northern Europe. His involvement in projects has ranged from compiling Invitations to Tender and Bills of Quantities for civils Balance of Plant works, selecting and appointing subcontractors, and managing a range of Civils and Electrical Balance of Plant works right through to planning and managing turbine installation, commissioning and handover to the Client. Clients have ranged from individual landowners through to large multi-national companies. Responsibilities have been to produce project programmes and reports, manage budgets, resources and risk throughout different project stages and to forsee and if necessary co-ordinate solutions to any obstacles that arise to ensure that his projects progress to completion safely and on time and on budget.

Andrew has over 15 years’ experience as a civil / structural engineering technician. From a structural perspective Andrew has experience with steel frame construction and detailing, concrete rebar detailing and scheduling and traditional masonry / timber building. In the civil department Andrew has experience in designing and detailing SUDS drainage solutions, earthworks designs and volume calculations, wind farm access and general pavement / road design. Andrew heads up the CAD team and is responsible for delivering drawings to all Green Cat departments. Andrew and his team have experience with various software packages such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Microdrainage and CADSRC.

Pamela has a MEng in Mechanical Engineering with Aeronautics and is a Chartered engineer with over 12 years’ experience managing projects across various industries.  She has a broad knowledge of design, on numerous structures, and has been heavily involved in the detail of implementing the design on construction sites. This familiarity comes with extensive understanding of health and safety and construction management.  Pamela’s experience has primarily been in larger onshore wind farm projects, over 35MW, since joining Green Cat Renewables.

Gregor has a BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Green Cat in 2020 working within the Asset Management team but has since migrated into the Engineering team. He is now responsible for managing all aspects of the development of onshore wind turbine developments from the post-planning phase up to final commissioning and handover to the developer. This includes planning condition discharge, financial procurement, design, health and safety, construction management and supervision. Co-ordinating between contractors at various stages of the project on behalf of the client and managing budget and project schedules as well as managing project teams. Gregor still assists the Asset Management team in undertaking technical visits to sites for annual inspections and troubleshooting turbine performance and maintenance issues.

Alasdair is a qualified town planner and urban designer, holding a BA (Hons) in Environmental Planning and an MA in Urban Design, with over 10 years of experience in completing Townscape and Visual Impact Assessments; and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments, particularly specialising in wind energy developments.  Alasdair has experience in taking a project right from initial site selection, through to project design and assessment. He has a wealth of experience in every aspect of completing an LVIA, including site selection, viewpoint selection and photography, graphics and written assessment. Within his ten years of experience, he has undertaken a number of large-scale wind projects as well as landscape capacity work for local authorities. He is comfortable in attending both client meetings, design workshops and consultation with relevant organisations, in order to understand the specific scope of each project he undertakes.  He also has experience in landscape design, including master planning, planting plans and Landscape Clerk of Works.

Ana has a BA Hons in Town & Country Planning and 14 years of specific experience working in renewables in onshore wind, hydroelectric and solar. In the last 5 years as the renewables industry has developed this has included battery storage and green hydrogen and ammonia projects. Her role involves managing projects from initial feasibility and scoping phases; to full EIA production; management of the planning application and conditions discharge. Covering all aspects and complexities of the Scottish planning system, her role has incorporated public consultation, enforcement and the appeals process. Ana is an experienced EIA manager with regard to environmental and technical constraints; and liaison, consultation and resolution with all key players throughout the pre-planning and consenting stages from clients, project designers, local communities, local planning authorities, statutory and non statutory consultees, developers, landowners and sub-contractors.

Merlin is a Senior Noise Consultant with an MSc in Renewable Energy and a Diploma in Acoustics from the Institute of Acoustics. Responsible for the management of noise equipment, planning and execution of noise measurement fieldwork, development of data validation and analysis tools, data analysis, reporting and peer review. He has extensive experience in the production of ETSU-R-97 noise impact assessments for wind turbine projects ranging from single 100kW turbines through to multi-megawatt wind farms and industrial noise following BS4142. He has conducted more than fifty post-completion assessments for wind projects throughout Scotland and England. Has experience of several sound power measurements and tonal analysis assessments following IEC 61400-11:2012 (Wind turbines – Part 11: Acoustic noise measurement techniques). Merlin also sits on the shadow sub-committee to MT 11, the British Standards Institute body that reviews amendments to, and discusses the development of, IEC 61400-11 and is an expert in the measurement and rating of amplitude modulation in turbine noise.

Vinnie has over 20 years of experience in the field of geotechnical testing for soils and aggregates. He has extensive experience of managing and setting up laboratories to conform with BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, which enables the laboratory to achieve and maintain UKAS accreditation. The United Kingdom Accreditation Service is the sole national accreditation body recognised by the British Government to assess the competence of organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. During his time at Green Cat, Vinnie has taken on other aspects of environmental monitoring such as noise monitoring and installing met masts.

Les is a Geologist with over 35 years of experience in all aspects of ground investigation. He holds a BSc in Geology and an MSc in Engineering Geology and holds professional qualifications as a Chartered Geologist and Chartered Scientist. For many years, Les has prepared interpretative reports relating to geotechnical, mineral stability and contaminated land considerations for various civil engineering projects, covering every development from a few houses to a concrete gravity dam and from assessment of aggregate sources to nuclear waste stores, plus everything between.

Gavin has 35 years of experience in all aspects of the ground investigation industry over a wide range of civil engineering projects. These include roads, sewers, housing, multi-storey structures, renewables projects, sewage treatment works, deep excavations, tunnelling in soil and rock, slope stability, machine bases, and the suitability of soils and rocks for reuse.  He has extensive experience of ground movement assessment, including slopes, deep excavations, embankments on soft ground and groundwater installations.  With many renewables sites associated with peaty and soft ground, Gavin has developed in-house peat slide risk assessment, data collection, management and analysis software. Experienced in setting up, auditing and working with quality management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 and 17025) and UKAS accreditation. Throughout his career he has been involved in ground investigation for many notable developments including the Scottish Parliament Building, Ocean Terminal, Faslane Naval Base, Major Trunk Roads (M74, M8 and A9), 2nd Severn Crossing, and the Forth Replacement Crossing.

Glen is an experienced Wind Resource Analyst who joined Green Cat in 2012. Glen’s experience includes the preparation and analysis of wind resource assessments for sites ranging from 50kW to 50MW, and operational performance assessments for existing projects across the UK for a range of turbine types including Enercon, EWT, Gamesa, Endurance, Northern Power and WTN machines. Glen has formed a key part of the Due Diligence team for the assessment of operational turbines, not only providing resource assessment but also using SCADA information to diagnose performance issues.

Gavin joined the Engineering team at Green Cat in 2009 and has since had a wide range of experience in the management and delivery of numerous wind & solar projects. This includes particular involvement during the financial procurement & due diligence stage of projects, supporting developers/owners with navigating the financial procurement process and satisfying the requirements of the project funders. Gavin also has significant experience in the negiotation and management of the land rights aspect of projects, including managing multiple landowner extensive cable routes (+20km). Gavin’s extensive experience throughout the construction process includes: discharging planning conditions, co-ordinating tender processes, Contract Review & Negiotation (BoP, EPC, ICP, Turbine Supply etc.), Contract Management, Contractor Management, as well as overseeing & inspecting the various construction stages on-site.
